Puppies and Kittens

We are here to provide the care your pet needs.

Our clinic, Champlin Park Pet Hospital, is the perfect place to start your journey with your new puppy or kitten. Your first few visits will be filled with a wealth of knowledge and information. We will be discussing everything from vaccination schedules to behavioral concerns/issues. To ensure that the information doesn’t get overwhelming we also provide you with a folder and packet of information that breaks down everything we discuss at that appointment. This folder and packet are yours to keep, so all the information we discuss with you is conveniently at your fingertips!

Please expect your pet’s first visit with us to be a bit longer than others. Typically plan on about forty-five to an hour total of being here for that initial appointment. We want to answer all questions you may have and ensure that you get any concerns you may have addressed while here with us.

  • Full nose-to-tail exam
  • Vaccinations
  • Deworming

  • Microchipping
  • Preventatives (heartworm, fleas, and ticks)
  • Heartworm and intestinal parasite screening
  • Behavioral concerns and recommendations
  • Potty training and socialization

Puppy- or Kitten- Proofing

Same with human toddlers, puppies and kittens are notorious for causing some havoc around the house, especially when teething. Here are some puppy and kitten proofing recommendations:

  • Keep electrical wires out of their reach as they love to chew.
  • Tasty seeming items including medications, shampoos, lotions, gum, chocolate, specific plants, etc. should be kept out of reach. It’s also never a bad idea to look up items that are specifically toxic to cats and dogs to ensure they don’t get into anything that could harm them. If your pet does ever get into something they shouldn’t have and you are unsure on the damage it could cause, we always would recommend calling PetPoisonHelpline, they have very thorough information when it comes to what is toxic to pets and how they should be treated.
  • Monitor bone/toy usage. Sometimes bones can splinter and cause harm or get stuck on their jaws. Toys also have the potential to be ingested if too small / ripped apart.
  • Keep an eye on HOT items. Irons, coffee pots, lit candles, candle/mug warmers can be easily knocked down depending on where they are kept. If you recently used the stovetop keep an eye on your kittens when they are in the kitchen. They could possibly burn their paws on the hot stove top if they jump up on the counter/stove.
  • Kid Toys / clothing items: Keeping young pets out of your kid’s playroom is probably a good idea, they have the tendency to eat things they shouldn’t. Small toys, magnets, or loose change can also become an issue very quickly if ingested. Socks, underwear, hair ties, shoes and many other clothing items can sometimes be easily chewed up or ingested. Keeping your floors free of these items can reduce the amount of trouble your young pet can get into.
  • Please feel free to call us at any time with questions that come up. The Hospital is open Monday through Friday 8am to 6pm.
